University of Peloponnisos
Agios Petros is a particularly picturesque village of the 15th century on Mount Parnonas at an altitude of 950 m. In the centre of the village there is the square and the church of the Apostles Peter and Paul built in 1900. The visitor can also see the Trikaliti Tower from the 18th century with the notable fortification. In the village, many traditional houses, mansions and fountains have survived. Agios Petros played an important role in the Revolution and it suffered heavy losses by the army of Ibraim (19th century). Near the village there is a stone bridge that passes over the river Tanos. The breathtaking location of the village allows visitors to make several walks in nature, like to walk the path E4 and reach the tops of Mount Parnonas, to visit the small church of St. George in the chestnut forest, visit the gorge of Lepida and the wonderful waterfall, to do horse riding or walk into the impressive cedar forest. The village also offers religious tourism, since the famous Byzantine Monastery Malevi is very close. Festivals of the village take place on 7 / 5, 29 / 6, 15 / 8, and 23 / 8. The festival of the camel is also known and it takes place during the carnival. After 15 / 8 the residents organise the Taneia Festivals, celebrations with a variety of cultural events. The New Year celebrations on 31 / 12 are also important.
