Ano and Kato Davia
University of Peloponnisos
Davia, capital of the municipality Falanthos, consists of two settlements, Ano and Kato Davia, 1.5 kilometers away from each other. The area is fertile due to the waters of the river Elissonas. The visitor can see many gardens, sour cherry trees, apple trees and walnut trees. It is worth visiting the picturesque settlement of Upper Davia. There are 4 old stone water mills, traditional houses with balconies, the arched bridge of Elissonas, and the church of Agios Nikolaos. The church was built in the 19th century and it has an impressive marble bell tower with elaborate arches. Close to the village are the ruins of Paliokastro (castlle) which mark the great medieval history of the place. In the middle Ages the city was called Tavia and was probably built over the ruins of ancient Dipaia. In Lower Davia visitors can see the Church of Panagia (19th century.). The village of Davia is a good starting point for hiking in the gorge of the river Elissonas.
