The Middle Age Town of Tavia

University of Peloponnisos

Medieval Tavia was built at the foot of Mount Mainalo. The city was an important cultural centre of the 15th century. It is said that the monks of the Monastery of Piganousis Oreinou, often visited the city in order to practice painting. The city had a castle, ruins of which remain till today. The visitor can see parts of the wall, various buldings, towers and two gates. It seems that parts from ancient buildings were used, possibly from ancient Dipaia. The runis still bear witness to the importance of the city.
