Ancient city of Sellasia

Ancient city of Sellasia

Ancient Sellasia was on the road that led from Sparta to Arcadia. The exact position of ancient Sellasia is not known. In 370 BC, it was fired and pillaged by the Thebans of Epameinondas. This is where the famous battle between the Spartans and the Macedonians took place in 222 BC, which led to the destruction of the city and the entry of the Macedonian king Antigonus III into Sparta.
