Vlacherna lies at an altitude of 950 meters and in an impressive location. The village has a remarkable stone church, the church of Saint Athanasios. The biggest attraction of the village is perhaps the location itself and the splendid view of Mount Mainalo. Above the village there was once the medieval castle of Bezenikos. The castle provided significant protection to the local population, having resisted the troops of Mohammed the 2nd the Conqueror (15th century) and those of Ibrahim (19th century). Inside the castle, is the Monastery of Agia Eleousa (early 14th century), but today only the monastery's church remains. This church celebrates Virgin Mary on the15 / 8. In a cave, on the southern side of the citadel, the Church of Panagia Katafygiotissa is located. Near the village one can also visit the church of the Monastery of Panagia Vlahernas. Today, the monastery is not in use, but the church celebrates on the 2 / 7. Additionally, very close to Vlacherna once stood the castle of Angelokastro. The exact date of the establishment of the fort is not known. Today on the homonymous hill only a few ruins have survived. The strategic position of the castle was used during the years of revolution since it offered view and control of the wider region. The district of Vlaherna was inhabited in ancient times. Remains of an ancient settlement are between Vlaherna and Chotoussa , which probably belonged to the ancient Kafyi, a city mentioned by Pausanias. The rich history of the region continued through the 20th century where the resistance to the Germans, led to the burning of the village. The National Resistance monument reminds us of the recent past. Each July the village organises the feta festival (Greek cheese) and in August the feast of the sepherd takes place, a week before mid-August. Also on the15/8 a traditional feast takes place.
