The beautiful, mountainous village of Kontovazena is the capital of the municipality and is a traditional settlement. The landscape around the village has rich vegetation and the region is particularly rich in water resources. The village is built on the slopes of Mount Afrodisio. Inside the village it is worth visiting the church of St. Nicholas (1826) and see the Chlia Spring(1895). Kontovazena is ideal for nearby excursions, to Lake Ladona, the hydroelectric plant and the Monastery of Panagia Kleivoka. Only a few kilometres outside the village, near the church of St. Peter, are the remains of the Oracle and sanctuary of Aphrodite Erykinis. Although little has been saved from the site, it is nevertheless believed that in ancient times it was an important place of worship. A series of water mills that ends up in the gorge of the monastery Kleivokas starts in Kontovazena. One of these mills built in 1826 still operates today. Finally, walking along the Afrodisio Mountain and through the ancient oak forests is a memorable experience.
