Menalo (Village)

University of Peloponnisos

Menalo is a small village built at an altitude of 880 m. At the entrance of the village is the beautiful stone church of Agios Demetrios. The old name of the village was Zarakova which had a tower during the years of the revolution. Unfortunately, the tower of Zarakova does not exist anymore. The area was called Menalia in the ancient times and it was a religious centre with the temple of Artemis Lykoatidas. Parts of this temple have been found in the village. Pausanias mentions that there was also a temple dedicated to god Pan which is yet to be discovered. The historic Monastery of Epano Chrepa is very close to the village.
