Black Pine

University of Peloponnisos

The Black Pine is an evergreen tree, widely known by the common name wildpine and usually reaches a height of the 20-40 m. These pines appear on altitudes from 600-2.150 m and are widely spread in Greece since they can develop in poor and dry soil. They dominate the northern part of Parnonas, in warmer and sunny areas. Extensive areas display large ecological benefits while in the region the Black Pine appears either singly or in clusters. Due to their scarcity Black Pines are protected by the European Council Directive 92/43.
