Tropea is the administrative centre of the area. It is built on the hill of Agios Georgios with a view of the region. In the beautiful square with the plane trees, is the church of Agios Georgios (19th century.). The church of Koimisis is also worth visiting for its splendid view. There are several traditional houses in the village and the old stone elementary school. Tropea is also a good starting point for excursions in the surrounding area. The are was inhabited from ancient times, as the ruins of ancient Thelpousa show (located in Vanaina). Pausanias mentioned ancient Tropea, however, the present village is in a different location from the ancient settlement. The city in its current location was established in the middle ages. The castle of Akova and the bridge of Kyra, which is outside the village Mouria are both from those times. Outside Tropea is the artificial lake of Ladonas, with the dam and the hydroelectric plant. The lake is also ideal for sport activities (canoeing, kayaking, etc). The village celebrates on the 20 / 7 and the 15 / 8 with traditional festivals, and cultural events are also organised during the carnival.
