Building of the Ionian Public Bank, St. Peter Square
Municipality of Argos
It was built in the beginning of the century, probably in 1902. It is a bi-level building, the physiognomy of which is unique in the town of Argos. The two big niches of the façade are its main characteristic.
This building was once known as Saganas’s restaurant. On the 1st floor a hotel functioned, known as “the foreigners’ hotel”, the first in our city. That is why this building is of a special historical value. Today, it lodges the Ionian Public Bank, which had bought it from the inheritors of Saganas in 1989 and reconstituted it preserving the characteristics of its architecture.
