Prophet Heliasís church

Municipality of Argos

In the little church of Pr. Helias (in the top of the Aspidaís hill)there is a single-spaced temple, made of wood, with an arched-tiled-roof and semi-circular arch in the east side. It is dated in the late-Byzantine period. The thin illuminative window of the arch and the huge raw stones of the walls are noticeable. In the inside, it has a severe temple with dividing wave-juels of neoclassic type. In the Church there many old icons remarkable specimens of the Byzantine Art, are housed. Its oldest icons are dated in the beginning of the 20th century.
During the last few years, it has gone through many interventions to be preserved. An arced lodgement was added and a low parapet was built in the south west side. The belfry in the southeast corner of the roof is newer as well. For a time period, a botched mineral belfry, which was deducted, had been placed near the paparet, as well. The coatings and the warehouse in the precinct of the little church were constructed more recently.
