The small village of Alea is built on the ruins of ancient Tegea. Thus, in the village are the ruins of the Temple of Athena Alea that was worshipped in the area. The archaeological museum of Tegea is located in Alea. A collection of folk art is exhibited in the Cultural Centre building. The ancient settlement of Alea is close to the present village. The ancient settlement was built on the road that connected the Perfecture of Argolida with that of Arcadia (road of Yssies). Apart from the temple of Athena, the temples of Efesias Artemis and Dionysus, were also there and annual feasts to the gods were organised.
