In a perfect location, with many springs, a breathtaking view and a high-altitude (above 1000m) stands the traditional village of Zatouna with the narrow streets and the stone houses. The village has a traditional square with a plane tree and beautiful churches that are worth visiting, such as the Assumption church, the church of St. George and the chapel of the Prophet Elias over the village with a splendid view. Zatouna played a very important role in the revolution and is the birthplace of many war heroes (Staikos Staikopoulos, Nicholas Karachalios). The village was particularly known for the tanneries which once operated there. Due to the isolation of the region the village was a place of exile, where Mikis Theodorakis was exiled. The old primary school of the village was turned into a museum in honour of the composer and is open daily throughout the year. In Zatouna various cultural events and a festival in mid-August are organised.
