Pera Melana is a typical village of the Tsakonia region in which traditions are kept alive. Many houses retain their local architecture. The village has plenty of water. There is a traditional fountain and a large cistern, where villagers used to gather the rainwater. From the upper neighbourhood the view is unique. In the building of the local association there is a valuable collection of folk art. The church of the village is dedicated to Virgin Mary and celebrates with a feast on the 15 / 8. Every August the village organizes the celebration of honey. Near the village is a series of fabulous beaches the most famous being the Livadi beach. On the hill of the Prophet Elias with the small church, a few kilometers outside the village, ruins of the temple of Apollo Tyrita remain.
