Mystakopoulosís mansion, St. Peterís Square

Municipality of Argos

It is a stone-built neoclassic building with perimetric eaves and drawn frames at the base of the roof and around the windows. The edge-tiles, the artistic grating of the balcony and the marble corbels complete its physiognomy. It was built in the end of the last century.
From a research at the Land Registry of Argos, we found out that it is the house of the wholesale merchant and the Mayor of Argos Charalabos Mystakopoulos (1830-1894). For this reason, it is not only a work of art but it also has a historical value.
During the period 1960-1974, it lodged the eye-hospital of George Zisis and until 1990 his consulting room. Today it lodges the café Aenaon on the 1st floor and a restaurant on the ground floor.
Ch. Mystakopoulosís inheritors sold it to Konstantinos Grammatikos in 1932 and the latterís son Michalis Grammatikos is its owner today.
